For some time telemarketers contracted by a power company had been calling me to offer me cheaper electricity, the problem is utilities are included in my rent which they should know by now seeing how every apartment building in this neighborhood is owned by the same company & everyone’s utilities are included in the rent, meaning they should be able to tell from the address if the person pays for his/her own electricity, after a while I sent email to the power company forbidding them and their partners to call me & got a response that they would pass the information onto their partners & their own marketing staff, this worked for a month until I got another call.

Me: “[My name]”
Telemarketer: “Hi, this is [Her Name] calling from [Power company], do you still live in”
Me: “[Power company] huh? Are you SURE you work for them?”
Telemarketer: “Yes, I am with [Power company], and-”
Me: “BS, if you were you wouldn’t have called me as my number is flagged in [Power company]’s systems as “do not call”, so either your employer has broken the law by not complying with my demand to be put on their “do not call” list, or you are lying, let’s try this again, who do you work for?”
Telemarketer: “I-I work for [Power company]”
Me: “Stop lying, you work for a telemarketing company, now remove my number from your list!”
Telemarketer: “I think I know who I work for!”
Me: “REMOVE MY NUMBER FROM YOUR LIST!” (click)

About midnight a driver comes to fuel desk and says he s lost his wife. I tell him not to worry and that she’ll turn up soon. He say s, “Not my wife. My wallet.” I said ” oh my gosh! Your wallet? We gotta call somebody!” I dialed PD for him and at 4 am one of our finest walked in the door waving the wallet. Every dollar the driver had still inside. All $4,000. He had left it in the shopping cart at Wal mart. Another customer had found it and turned it in.

I was 16 and working at a big box department store with lots of manager turnover. This is just one example of the geniuses hired.
A fellow cashier asked me to switch shifts with her (she’d work my Saturday and I her Sunday). I was happy to oblige and per policy we both went up to the manager to get the changes approved.
I show up for the Sunday shift and the manager comes charging up to me, exclaiming that I blew off yesterday’s shift and he should fire me. I quickly remind him of the shift switch. He then tells that he had her work another shift instead, and that I should have known this. I explain no one told me. And apparently he just expected me to work both days (which would have put me into overtime). He never acknowledged his mistake or apologized. Come to find out from my coworker that he went to her the same day as the original change and told her not to work my shift. She even asked if she should let me know and he told her not to worry about it. He was pretty much a dick to me for the rest of the summer, fortunately he was gone soon after.

For a small background: I work for an online store, which only deals with customers through phonecalls, emails, and chats. Never face-to-face interactions. Sometimes we have to call our delivery company and talk to them about all the different issues, that might happen during a delivery. We always greet them with our first name and the company name.
I called them once to ask a routine question about a delivery and greeted as usual with my name. After I told the issue, the person on the other end put me on hold for a few min to check things out. When he came back, he said: “So *coworker’s name*, here’s what has happened…”

At another time, my coworker had to call the same company and got a different person. This person did the exact same thing: greeted her after the hold with my name.

It wouldn’t have been so weird, if it wasn’t because we have totally different names (her’s starts with L and is fairly short, mine starts with M and is fairly long), we don’t sound the same, and neither was working on the same day as the other, when it happened.

Driving my son and his sons to drop their cat at the vet, the talk turns to a friend of mine who teaches art at the boys’ schools.

My junior high grandson, who now takes another elective, refers to my friend by her first name. I’m a bit shocked because he has always followed my advice to refer to her as Mrs. (last name.)

When I call him on it, he answers, “She’s not my teacher any more.”

I guess that makes sense.
