Community Rules

NAR has always placed great value on freedom of speech. However, we don’t want our home to become a place for trolls, spammers or bullies. We want to ensure we’re fostering a safe, open space where anyone can share a story or express their opinion. Let’s keep this a place to discuss the bad behavior of the people out there, not here.

  • Stay Civil and On-Topic
✅ Share relevant thoughts or personal experiences.
✅ Ask questions that move the discussion forward.
✅ Use humor that adds to the conversation — not at someone’s expense.
✅ Acknowledge different perspectives, even when you disagree.
❌ Personal attacks or mocking of other commenters or staff.
❌ Making false or unsubstantiated claims about NAR or editorial practices.
❌ Derailing conversations with off-topic rants, inflammatory remarks, or bad-faith arguments.
❌ Promoting traffic to groups or platforms hostile toward NAR and its community.

  • Avoid Truth Policing and Engage Constructively
Comments like “That didn’t happen”, “This is fake”, or “This sounds like AI” shut down the conversation rather than move it forward. Instead of dismissing others’ experiences, ask thoughtful questions or share your own perspective to keep the discussion constructive. If you’re genuinely concerned about accuracy, feel free to flag the story for review.

  • Censor Profanity and Use Respectful Language
Self-censorship of strong language and sensitive terms keep the conversation respectful and accessible for everyone. Be thoughtful when discussing sensitive topics like race, gender, or identity — even when your intent is neutral.

    ✅ Allowed: Using asterisks (*) to censor profanity (f***, s***, b****).
✅ Optionally: you may use underscores _, dashes -, or hashes # to mask words.
❌ Not allowed: Full profanity or other creative substitutions to bypass moderation.
❌ Profanity, hostile language, or insults that significantly disrupt the conversation or create a negative environment, even when censored.
❌ Violent, graphic, or explicit details, including personal or intimate details that don’t contribute meaningfully to the conversation or might make others uncomfortable.

  • Keep Identity, Religion, and Politics Relevant
Feel free to share personal experiences to help illustrate a point, such as how a particular policy or societal issue has impacted you. However, avoid using these topics to escalate tensions or divert attention from the core conversation.

✅ Share personal experiences that enhance the discussion (e.g., “This happened to me when I…” or “I’ve seen similar issues in my community…”).
✅ Critique public figures or policies — focus on ideas, not individuals.
✅ Refer to people by official titles or names when possible.
❌ Using slurs or demeaning language toward individuals or groups.
❌ Turning disagreement into personal attacks — especially around gender identity, religion, or politics.
❌ Posting unrelated slogans, memes, or inflammatory remarks that derail the conversation

  • Don’t Harass, Bully, or Use Hate Speech
We don’t allow harassment, bullying, or hate speech of any kind — including racism, sexism, homophobia, or attacks based on someone’s identity or beliefs. Content meant to threaten, shame, humiliate, or sexually harass others is not welcome either. Repeatedly stirring up conflict  — even under the guise of “sharing an opinion” — isn’t allowed here.

❌ Threatening or wishing harm on others.
❌ Repeatedly targeting users across threads.
❌ Using multiple accounts to argue, provoke, or stir up conflict.
❌ Personal attacks or behavior that singles people out or undermines the conversation.

  • Don’t Use Images to Harass, Derail, or Bypass Rules
A well-placed meme or image can add humor or insight to a thread — however, they are expected to abide by all the same rules.
❌ NSFW, violent, or graphic content.
❌ Embedding profanity or sensitive language that would normally be censored in text comments.
❌ Using images or screenshots to bypass moderation.

  • Avoid Self-Promotion, Spam, and Personal Info
❌ Spam or repetitive posts that don’t contribute to the discussion.
❌ Self-promoting content or sales pitches.
❌ Sharing personal information like names, contact details, or workplace info — even if it’s public.

  • Don’t Undermine the Platform
We rely on ads to keep the site free and accessible to everyone, and we work hard to keep the experience ad-light compared to many other websites.
✅ Share feedback about ads via the contact form.
✅ Help us improve by reporting occasional ad issues.
❌ Promoting tools to undermine the site’s ability to operate.
❌ Attacking the site while continuing to expect free content.

  • Share Feedback or Concerns Through the Contact Form
We welcome constructive feedback and questions through our contact form. However, using the comments section to attack staff, dispute moderation decisions, or misrepresent situations while derailing conversations isn’t allowed. Our moderators aim to be fair and respectful, and we ask everyone to do the same.

Final Note: If you break our Terms and Conditions or Rules, don’t respect the spirit of the community, or consistently post things that require an unusual amount of moderation time — your commenting privileges may be suspended temporarily or permanently. Think of it like a dinner party: if the behavior wouldn’t be welcome there, it likely doesn’t belong here either.

A big thank you to everyone who makes this space what it is — whether you’ve been here for years or just found your way in. The way you engage — with curiosity, humor, kindness, or just a genuine voice — helps make this a place people enjoy coming back to.
