Unfiltered Story #279546

I had to ask my dad to share an email with me regarding the Teams schedule. I told him 5 TIMES which email I was talking about, and then, he gave me the WRONG EMAIL and got mad at me for exiting the email to search for another.
Eventually I just asked my mom to send it to me.
People are just so self absorbed in their phones these days.

I was quietly sitting in my ground floor flat reading a novel because we’re under lockdown.
At least 5 cars pull up and drop off a neighbouring couple. “So glad to know you’re all ok”.

The entire extended family got together to check up on each other.

I’m a guy who works with dogs- walking, training, and relevant to this story, sitting, where I stay at a client’s home to look after their dog. Current events has resulted in the UK being in lockdown, but this story happens about a week or so before the government actually put a proper lockdown in place and was still “advising” people to minimise movement. Countries across the world were going into or were already in lockdown. Many had closed their borders entirely.

I had two sitting jobs coming up- good money- but not looking likely to happen. I sent a message to both clients- one I knew was going to see family within the country, so may still go. But the other was going to Dubai for a week.
The first essentially replied with “I haven’t had confirmation but it’s probably not happening now, I’m sorry”. The second, the one going to Dubai? She replied and told me that as long as the planes were going there, so was she.

I spent the next week in absolute shock, just shaking my head, and occasionally saying to my husband that I could not believe that she was still planning on going- or believed that it would! And sure enough, two weeks before she was due to leave, the government put an official lockdown in place.
The stupid thing is- ignoring anything about the illness itself- there was a high chance of her getting stranded there, or of ME getting stuck in lockdown AT HER HOUSE.

I still occasionally shake my head, look to my husband, and voice that I can’t believe how long she was planning and thinking she would go. Bonkers.

My mom and I have finished watching a bad crime show.

Me: That wasn’t very good.

Mom: Says the girl who watches cartoons.

Me: Hey, cartoons are good for your brain.

Mom: And YouTube.

Me: That parrot saying “feed the babies” was funny. And I like music. And vlogs.

(This occurs while I’m in a store shopping for Christmas gifts for my family. I overhear this conversation)

Cashier: “Ma’am, a Visa is a card to get into the country”

Customer: “No, I would think I know what a Visa is, it’s a card with money”

Cashier: “No Ma’am, that’s a debit card, a Visa is used if you’re a foreigner, or from a different country.”

Customer: “YOU KIDS THESE DAYS DON’T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT MONEY! HOW DARE YOU INSULT ME LIKE THAT?”

Cashier: “Ma’am you can either pay or I will call security to remove you from the premises.”

*she left mumbling under her breath*
