Cart Guy Deals With The Carts And Mother Deals With The Trash
When I was younger my mother would take me grocery shopping weekly. The cart guy had an intellectual disability, and my mother always stopped to talk to him for a bit.
Mother: “Hi, [Cart Guy]! How are you today?”
Cart Guy: “Hello, hi, and hello! I am doing fine today, thank you very much for asking! I am doing the carts!”
Mother: “And they look great! I love that I never have to look for a cart when I come here!”
As they were talking, another customer approached us.
Customer: “Oh, I guess today is when they let all the [disabled slur]s out.”
Mother: *Very calmly, to this customer* “It’s so nice that they let you all out once in a while.”
The awful customer glared at my awesome mother and stalked off into the store, and our conversation with the cart guy continued as lovely as ever, with him thankfully none the wiser.
