Webcam You Believe Her Attitude?
I work in internal tech support. I get a ticket from [Coworker #1].
Ticket: “My webcam is broken. It’s always just black.”
I joke to another coworker:
Me: “I bet she forgot to open the privacy lid.”
First bummer:
Coworker #2: “No, [Coworker #3] just checked remotely, upgraded the docking station firmware, and confirmed that the webcam is not working.”
Me: “My money is still on the privacy lid.”
I text [Coworker #1].
Me: “Could it be that you forgot to open the privacy lid?”
Coworker #1: “The what?”
Me: “That little slider above the laptop screen.”
Coworker #1: “There is none.”
Meanwhile, I ask a tech-savvy user in the same office to please check it.
Not two minutes later, my phone starts ringing angrily.
Coworker #1: *Screaming* “HAVE YOU JUST SENT [USER] TO CHECK MY CAMERA?!”
Me: “Yeah, I really need to know about the privacy lid.”
Coworker #1: *Still screaming* “I ALREADY TOLD YOU THERE IS NONE!”
Me: “See, my problem is that I’m sitting in front of the exact same model… and it has one. Is yours closed?”
Coworker #1: *Screaming is the new talking* “I TOLD YOU THERE IS NONE! SHALL I SEND YOU A PICTURE?!”
Jackpot!
Me: “Yes. Please. Send me a picture.”
She sends a picture, and of course, I can see the privacy lid slider.
Me: “There it is.”
Coworker #1: “WHAT?! WHERE?!”
Me: “Right on top. That little off-centered thing.”
There’s audible rustling.
Me: “You can move it with your fingernail.”
The rustling intensifies, and then there’s silence.
Me: “Is the camera working now?”
Coworker #1: “SOMEONE COULD’VE AT LEAST TOLD ME ABOUT IT!”
Me: “I think I tried for quite a while now, don’t you think?”
She disconnected the call.
