Blood Is Thicker Than This Customer

My family has a shop. It was started by my grandad and his brother, so the shop name has their two initials and our last name. Recently they both retired, giving ownership to my Dad and two of his cousins. This particular day one of our newer workers is helping a customer who wishes to return a chair, he seems okay at first but suddenly snaps.

Customer: *Shouting.* “This is outrageous! I know the owner and will have you fired!”

Worker: “I’m sorry, sir, but without your receipt, I can’t refund you.”

Customer: “I want to speak to your manager!”

My dad goes behind the till.

Dad: “Hello, sir. How May I help you today?”

Customer: “I want to return this, and this kid is refusing to do so!”

Dad: “Let me see your receipt and I will happily refund it.”

Customer: “I don’t have a receipt.”

Dad: “I guess I can’t help you then.”

Customer: “I know Mr. [Last name], he told me I could get a full refund and a new chair for free!”

Dad: “Ah, and who is it?”

Customer: “Um, uh, C…”

My dad decides to have some fun with him.

Dad: “Oh! [Grandad’s Name]! I assume you play golf with him?”

Customer: *Cocky.* “Yes! All the time! Can I get that refund then?”

Dad: “Oh! Did [Grandad’s Name] not tell you? He’s retired. His son is now the owner, this will have to go through him.”

Customer: *Laughs.* “Yeah! I know him, he’ll let this happen, he’s a good kid.”

Dad: “Thank you.”

Customer: “Huh?”

Dad holds out his hand.

Dad: “[His Name], the owner.”

Customer: “…”

He promptly turns and leaves without another word!
