Maybe Almond Extract Would Be Better?

, , , , | Friendly | January 6, 2024

I learned that some cultures use small amounts of cyanide as a seasoning.

I learned this by eating some cookies… that used cyanide as a seasoning… and finding out about it after when my lips started to tingle and I asked about it.

Friend: “Yeah, that might be the cyanide. It shouldn’t be enough to kill you unless you eat a whole lot of it, but if it’s affecting you already, you should go easy on it.”

Me: “It’s seasoned with cyanide?”

Friend: “Technically no; it’s seasoned with ground peach pit. But the thing that makes ground peach pit taste that way is cyanide. If you remove the cyanide, it doesn’t taste right.”

Me: “Oh.”

I mean, the cookies didn’t taste BAD. It was pretty good tasting. I ate a lot of them before I found out. And I didn’t die from it.

But the next time I visited, I only had one cookie, not several.
