a member of a large men’s chorus, with over 150 singers. Every so often we take part in a competition with other choruses from around the world, and our performances are very showy, with choreography. We all wear matching tuxedos, often with bright colors and even sequins.

On our way to and from the contest stage, we’ll usually have to walk through public areas of hotels or other venues, and we get a lot of curious looks as we do — it’s not often you see 100+ guys in matching, colorful tuxedos walk by. When asked, most of the members will explain quickly that it’s a singing competition. I usually try to have some fun with it, though.

Bystander: “What’s all this?”

Me: “*Really* big wedding.”
