You Don’t Always Need To Be Playing Team Sports To Be Team Players
I am waiting in line in the store with my kids. They’re helping me put stuff in the carts, helping me remember what we need, etc. They’re very well-behaved today. Trust me; it isn’t always like that with young kids!
The manager behind the cashier in front of us comments.
Manager: “You guys are being great kids for your mom!”
The kids smile, proud of their good behavior.
Manager: “It’s really nice to see you kids being helpful to your mom. I don’t have children of my own, but I’m a tee-ball coach, and an important lesson I teach them is how to be team players.”
The manager turns to me.
Manager: “Can I buy them each an ice cream for being great team players?”
My kids still remember this; it made them realize that people are aware of how others around them act and how people can be perceived. They were always a little more helpful in the store after that day!
