We See A Failed Human Being In This Story, And It’s Not The Drive-Thru Guy
I am in the drive-thru at a Mexican fast food place. A truck ahead of me is ordering, and even from here, I can hear some shouting.
All of a sudden, I see the worker hand a burrito over to the driver, who opens it, spits on it, and throws it back through the window. He drives off, and I can still hear him cursing and shouting over the loud engine! I pull up to see a shocked-looking retail worker, probably seventeen or so, covered in rice, beans, guac, and meat.
Me: “Are you okay?”
Worker: “He… called me a failure and said I should go die in a fire…”
Me: “Wow… What happened?”
Worker: “I told him we were out of sour cream?”
Me: “That’s all?”
Worker: “I… don’t think I can do this anymore.”
The poor guy just walked away in a daze, and it was a couple of minutes before a frazzled-looking manager rushed over to hurriedly take my order.
