The Scary Tale Of The Customer Who Couldn’t Leave

I work as a cashier. We have a guy working outside to fix the light on our sign, blocking our exit door. We have closed the automatic doors and are telling our customers to walk around and use the entrance door as an exit.

Most customers are having trouble figuring this out, even after hearing us tell our previous customers and watching them walk around to the entrance.

We have four cashes: two on each side with the exit in the middle. A customer, after browsing, starts to walk around a cash. I tell her she can’t go out the exit and to go out the entrance. She walks back up the cash and around it, and then she comes down the middle to exit at the same door. She’s walked in a very small and obvious circle and still looks confused.

I just shake my head, and my current customer looks at me with a “WTF?” look on his face.
