Racism Is Not On The Menu
I am the manager on duty at a restaurant. One of my servers has come into the back saying a customer wants to speak to me, and that she is going on break. She looks especially agitated, so obviously, something is wrong. After finding out the customer, I approach her.
Me: “Hello. I believe you wanted to speak to me?”
Customer: “You’re the manager? Good. Is it possible to have a white server, please?”
Me: “I beg your pardon?”
She points to the TODDLER playing with crayons.
Customer: “My daughter is very particular about the race who handles her food. I think it would be best if we have a white server, instead.”
Me: “Ah, I see.”
She gives me a knowing smile.
Me: “How about you pay for your drinks and leave?”
Customer: “WHAT?!”
Me: “We don’t serve you people here.”
Customer: “But I’m white!“
Me: “Yes, and you’ve also just passed off your racism on a toddler, who probably isn’t older than two years old.”
Customer: “She’s twenty-two months!”
Me: “Thank you for confirming. I will bring your bill. Please, don’t come back.”
She and her daughter left. We hope her daughter won’t grow up to be racist, too.
