Unfiltered Story #323028

, , , | Unfiltered | April 18, 2024

I’m a grocery cashier. Our store is a bit of a one-stop shop, with everything from cold items to outdoor supplies to electronics. I’m terrible at guessing ages, so I card people probably more often than I really need to.

A man comes through my line with a DVD for an R-rated movie, which triggers the restricted sale function on my register. To continue, I need to either acknowledge that he’s over 50 years old, scan his ID, manually enter his birthdate, or take the DVD off the purchase.

Me: “Could I see your ID, please?”

Customer: “I want to speak to your manager.”

When my manager answered my (confused) call to the helpline, he went on a short rant about how he was sixty years old and shouldn’t be carded. My manager just asked for his birthdate and entered it into the register to allow the purchase. He left without further complaining.
