Unfiltered Story #260688

(Our policy for no-receipt returns, or returns out of our 90-day window, is to make sure we still carry the item and give the customer the lowest price from the last 90 days. Our co-manager is telling us, during a morning meeting, about a particular customer who’s come in at least once already to return a mirror we no longer carry. We’ll return it, but we’ll have to sell it at the lowest price.)

Co-Manager: “That lady with the mirror came back last night!”

Assistant Manager: “No way! The same lady from the other day?”

Co-Manager: “Yeah, I happened to be up here bringing carts back and she walked in with a bag and I was like, ‘You’re not here to try and return that mirror again, are you?'”

(Our co-manager had been working all six work-days the week prior to this, plus was going to work five this particular week, and he’d been the one to give this lady the lowest price offer on this mirror in the first place. We’re all staring at him or laughing at this point, and he starts laughing as he finishes his story.)

Co-Manager: “She walked back out to her car, left the mirror in the car, and came back in with some other stuff instead. I bet she goes to [Other Location, about an hour away] if she hasn’t already.”

(She claimed to be moving and didn’t want the mirror anymore, but the Co also said she was purchasing a piece of furniture, which seemed weird when she’d have to move that, too. Some people just really want a refund, but luckily for us, a manager has to be called up to approve no-receipt returns, and this mirror had been talked about for a couple of days at this point, so even if it hadn’t been the same manager, the answer would have been the same. The most she’d have gotten back on it was 90% off–which would have come to less than $10–since it was clearance. She’d get more back from the mirror if she’d do what some of our other customers do and re-sell it online somewhere at full price or more, depending on how much she bought it for in the first place. Sigh.)
