Unfiltered Story #246432
When the school I work at has a voicemail message, the number is logged as well. Occasionally, we get blank messages, but if they seem long, I take down the number and put the words ‘long blank’ next to it.
One day a boy comes up to me upset, saying that I had put him on detention for being late when his mother called in. I look through my notes and couldn’t find his name on that day, and I find no emails from attendance either.
The boy insists one of us made a mistake, but on a hunch, I decide to pull up his file. I see the number as a blank voicemail.
Turning around my notebook I showed him the number, telling him that I can’t tell what was said from a muted phone.
He recognised the number, and the realisation of the accusations he had made in front of several people felt satisfying.
