Maybe They’d Notice If The Roof Caved In

One stormy morning, I come into work early just in time to notice a leak in the ceiling. [Coworker #1] calls our boss and starts moving electronics out of the way, while I retrieve the mop and any rags I can get my hands on. The entire time, [Coworker #2] is about fifteen feet away straightening an aisle.

Over the next ten minutes or so, my boss ends up going onto the roof in the storm to fix the leak, comes inside dripping head to toe, listens to [Coworker #1] and me point out other leaks that we discovered (and have discussed loudly) that may be starting, and examines the results of the original leak.

Finally, [Coworker #2] wanders over.

Coworker #2: “Woah, what’s the puddle from? What spilled here?”
