Unfiltered Story #273083

, , | Unfiltered | November 25, 2022

I work at a bank. Recently, our customers have been having trouble getting their [card] debit cards to run as credit at [certain grocery store chain]. After some investigating, we learn that [grocery store] is doing this because [card] debit transactions cost them less than [card] credit transactions. It is just [card], no other kinds.

It is literally only at this one chain of stores, yet I have multiple members call and tell me that a [grocery store] employee had told them EVERYWHERE had stopped allowing [card] brand credit transactions, and all required debit pin transactions for [card] purchases. This lie was so easily disproven that many members themselves tested it before even calling us at the bank, questioning why they would be lied to.

After a few weeks of this, and much complaining, [grocery store] STILL isn’t accepting [card] credit transactions, but does now have signs at their checkout stating that they will only take [card] as debit because it is “safer” for the customer than credit transactions are… but all other kinds of cards are still usable as either.
