Unfiltered Story #238345

, , | Unfiltered | July 7, 2021

My mum has recently been diagnosed with heart failure and her strength has been waning a lot over the last few weeks. As a result, there have been a lot of spills of drinks, to the point that I decided to get her a cup either with two handles or an ‘unspillable’ one. After some discussion with the salesperson at the store, she opts for the latter – a cup that, filled to the right line, can be tipped upside down and not leak because the channel for a straw is perpetually above the liquid line.

We get it home, and I fill it with some water for her to have a drink, but find water around it on the coaster after a while. We brush it off as related to my having had the lid on slightly crooked while testing the ‘unspillability’ of the cup, straighten the lid, and go back to what we were doing.

Later, I refill the cup and immediately notice that there’s water underneath, despite my being very careful not to drip. It’s at that point that I notice a pinprick hole in the base of the cup, where the plastic had been pinched off during production,

As my dad put it: it’s the first non-leak cup that’s only non-leak when it’s upside down.
