(I work in a restaurant in the city centre. Our customers are mainly locals but because of our location we also attract tourists. These kinds of conversations happen regularly.)
Me: *in Dutch* “Good evening! How can I help you?”
Customer: *in English* “I’d like the lasagne and an iced tea, please.”
Me: “Okay…”
(I hide it, but I feel annoyed every time. It’s degrading and it’s like they just see you as someone to fetch them their food and drinks, and don’t care at all what you just said.)
