It’s Annoying To Not Validate You’re Not Annoying

(I overhear two of my friends having a conversation about how they are socially awkward and what they have anxiety about.)

Friend #1: “You know, I worry a lot about what people think of me. Like, I’m scared that I’m really annoying.”

Friend #2: “Oh, my God. Me, too! Like, I’m scared that people actually hate me and I’m just being annoying and clingy.”

Friend #1: “Don’t worry. You’re not annoying at all. You’re a really nice person. I’m happy you’re my friend.” 

Friend #2: “Aww, thanks. That is so nice.”

Friend #1: “…”

Friend #2: “…”

Friend #1: “So, do you have anything to say to me?”
