Getting Out Of Trouble Is A Fair Trade-Off
(I am about three, and my mother and I get in a fight.)
Mom: “I am your mother!”
Me: “Not for long! Daddy’s gonna trade you in!”
Mom: “What did you just say?”
Me: “Daddy said that when you turn 40, he’s gonna trade you in for two 20s. Then, you won’t be my Mommy, and I won’t have to listen!”
(That is how my three-year-old self managed to get out of trouble by throwing my father completely under the bus. My mom is nearly 50 now, and my dad still hasn’t traded her in.)
