All Heard This Song Before

(I am a member of my high school’s choir, and ten of us have signed up to audition for a state choir festival. It is the morning of the auditions, five minutes before we are planning to leave, and only six of us have shown up.)

Choir Director: “You know, it just bugs me when these talented kids don’t make the ounce of effort to shine. I mean, how hard is it to just show up and try? I wish these kids would learn some responsibility!”

(She continues in this vein for a while. Finally…)

Me: “Ms. [Director], you’re literally preaching to the choir.”
