Stop Trying To Save Customers Money! It Always Backfires!
Our store has stamp cards that, when full, entitle you to 30% off your purchase. A couple comes in once with a large order and a stamp card that is close to full. We weren’t supposed to do this (though a lot of us did!), but I explain:
Me: “Hi! If you pay for $15 worth of your order, it will fill your stamp card, and then you would get 30% off the rest of it!”
Customer: *Absolutely baffled.* “I don’t understand.”
Me: “Your stamp card is almost full, and you only need to spend $15 to fill it up. If you split this large purchase into two, I can scan the first $15 and fill up your stamp card. Then you can use the stamp card on the rest of it.”
Customer: *Still very confused.* “Uh… no. Just let me pay.”
They paid for the whole thing and just took their full stamp card with them.
