I open a second register to help with the growing line of customers. A man sees me and jumps to my register, but there were others in line ahead of him that should have been helped first.
Me: You were not next.
Him: This makes up for all the times it has happened to me.
I am irritated but bite my tongue and get him rung up. When he is out the door with his purchase, I apologize to the older couple behind him.
Me: I am so sorry! Two wrongs do not make a right, but I did not want to start an argument.
Thankfully, the couple was patient and understanding.
