Skirting The Real Issue

(I am playing a video game where you can befriend and marry other characters. Friendship is indicated by the other character’s head turning to look at you as you walk by. I have spent enough time trying to impress a particular male character that I ended up marrying him by default, but I didn’t get him to truly fall in love with me, or even consider me a friend. I am complaining about this to my mother.)

Me: “This is so sad! We’re married and have a kid but he doesn’t even like me as a friend! See? His head won’t turn to look at me when I walk by!”

Mom: “Did you try wearing a shorter skirt?”
