(It’s the day before Thanksgiving break and a half-day at school. 4 students are present in my 1st hour class, so I scrapped the day’s activity and called it a “work day” when one student decides to call his mom on speaker phone. Everyone in the room is listening.)

Student: Can I go home? Nobody is here.
Mom: No, you have school today.
Student: Yeah, but nobody is even here! We’re not doing anything.
Mom: Well then you should go to physics to make up your missing labs.
Student: I can’t. We have to watch a movie. I should just go home and work there.
Mom: No. What classes do you have today?
Student: Foods. I already know how to cook!
Mom: Well CLEARLY you don’t because you only have a B-!
