Unfiltered Story #246310

, | Unfiltered | October 26, 2021

I went to my local polling place with my husband. We live in a very small area and though my mother-in-law has a bunch of family in the area, my father-in-law is from New England so there are only 5 voting-age adults with our surname in the entire county. I get to the table first.
Volunteer #1: What’s your name, hon?
Me: My name is (first and last name).

Volunteer #1 flips through her book and then flips back a few pages

Volunteer #1: I have an Amy, Anita, Brian…

I look back at my husband in confusion, because the only ones with our last name are us, my mother-in-law, my sister-in-law, and my father-in-law who has the same first name as my husband as well. Volunteer #2 sees our faces and asks for our last name again. We tell her

Volunteer #2 to #1: It’s (last name)
Volunteer #1 : (Incorrect last name)?
Volunteer #2: No! (Last name)!
Volunteer #1 : (same incorrect last name)?
Volunteer #2: ( Last name)!!
Volunteer #1 : (same incorrect last name)?
Volunteer #2: ( getting right up by #1 ear), IT’S (Last name)!!
Volunteer #1: Oh! ( Last name)! I thought she said (same Incorrect last name)!

After that we voted without a hitch. She saw my husband’s name right after mine because apparently we’re the only two of the 5 of us that are even registered to vote.
