Wax On, Not Wax Off

(Over Christmas, the cat knocks some candles onto the radiator. Due to the location, none of us notice this until it’s a solid mess attached to the carpet. I go out for the day one weekend, and when I come back I see what looks like greaseproof/baking paper and an iron on the table.)

Me: “What’s this?”

Mum: “Huh?” *looks over* “Oh, I tried to clean up the wax. The Internet said putting down greaseproof paper and ironing it will get it up but it didn’t work.”

Me: “Oh… I’ll put it back.” *I pick up the paper, then realise something* “Er, did you get this from my room?”

Mum: “Yes, I couldn’t find any downstairs.”

Me: “This is [Brand name of heat activated glue]. It’s for making appliqués…”

Mum: “Oh… Well, I guess that’s why it didn’t work.”

(Now there is wax and glue on the carpet.)
