He’s Ma Pa!
(My little brother has started talking. Our family is overpopulated with females, what with my two sisters and me and also my mom. Little brother calls us all ‘mama,’ even my dad.)
Dad: “[Little Brother], please say ‘papa.’”
Little Brother: “Mama!”
Dad: “No, you have to call me ‘papa.’ Papa! Please try to say ‘papa.’”
(My little brother gets a look of utter concentration on his face. Then he exclaims triumphantly.)
Little Brother: “Mapa!”
(It took a while before he started calling dad ‘papa.’ In the meantime we all took to calling dad ‘mapa.’)
