You Catch More Flies With Honey Than Vinegar, Part 11

I work nights at a retail store, and as such, I often order food and drink online via [delivery app] because I don’t want to go out during the day. Because I empathize with the employees who have to fulfill such orders, as well as the drivers who bring the orders to me, I often include notes or jokes in the ‘special instructions’ field.

One time I was ordering beer from a nearby liquor store, and I wrote, “Thank you for doing what you do! You’re the best! <3”. I thought no more of it, because hey, I DO appreciate retail and delivery, folks.

When I got the order, it was suspiciously large and heavy. I’d only ordered a six-pack, so this was odd. When I opened the bag, there was a huge amount of what I can only call ‘swag’: a scarf, a pair of sunglasses, various stickers and pins, all with an alcohol theme.

I can only surmise it was stuff they had ‘lying around the store’. There was also a note saying, “Thank you for the kind note! You made our day!”

It was amazing. I actually drove to the store a couple of weeks later, identified myself to the employee, who remembered my name! She happily gave me a hug for making what was apparently a crappy day in retail much better.
