Write And Wrong
Caller: “I need to send a letter to your department. Can I get the address?”
Me: “Of course. It’s [Department Name], building four—”
Caller: “How do you spell four?”
Me: “Four, like the number. The number ‘4’ is fine.”
Caller: “Oh, okay. F… O… R. What next?”
The street number and name go by without incident:
Me: “Washington, DC—”
Caller: “How do you spell DC?”
Me: “Just the letters DC. ‘D’… then ‘C’.”
Caller: “D, E, E, C, E, E. Well that’s needlessly complicated!”
Me: “We also have an email if you’d like to—”
Caller: “—I tried that, and my email kept not sending because your email address is spelled wrong!”
