Wow. Not A Single Drop Of Compassion. Part 10
My boss is an a**hole, but I like my job and the pay is good. Since we all hotdesk, I find myself sitting close to him today. I hear his half of a phone conversation.
Boss: “Yes, this is [Boss]. What do you want?”
Pause.
Boss: “Well, no, I can’t spare you right now. Request denied.”
Pause.
Boss: “Look, I am sorry your mom is sick, but you have obligations to work that—”
Pause.
Boss: “It doesn’t matter how long she has left. You need to be here and—”
Pause.
Boss: “Well, think of it this way. You’ll need some time off soon to plan for the funeral, so you should save your days off for that. Hello? Are you still there?”
My boss hung up and went back to work like nothing. I was just staring at him, but he didn’t notice.
HIS boss came over to ask to speak to him (a rare occurrence — management at that level in the company rarely came down to our floor) a few hours later. [Boss] came back less than twenty minutes later and angrily cleared out his desk.
Officially, he was sent on a company training course, but it was made known that he was on mandatory Human Resources sensitivity training. He came back still an a**hole but ever-so-slightly improved.
