Wishing Upon A Star Is Not Enough

I used to work at a call center, booking vacations for people. The company had the Disney resorts as part of the inventory, but they’re obviously in very high demand.

Caller: “I want to go to Disney World through one of your packages.”

Me: “What dates did you have in mind, ma’am?”

Caller: “Next weekend.”

Me: “I’m afraid that’s impossible. People usually need to start looking the year before to book the Disney packages.”

Caller: “Not good enough. I promised my four-year-old grandson that we’re going.”

Me: “You should not have done that, ma’am. If you contacted Disney directly, then maybe they can do something for you, but through our agency, it would be impossible.”

Caller: “I tried that, and they wanted to charge thousands. No, you’ll just have to make it happen for us. I have a four-year-old to think about. You’re gonna need to cancel someone else’s booking so that I can take it.”

Me: “Did you seriously just ask me to cancel someone else’s Disney vacation that they booked almost a year ago?”

Caller: “Cancel one of the bookings without kids. These Disney adults need to learn that the kids take priority.”

Me: “I will not be doing that, ma’am.”

Caller: “Then I’m telling all my friends that [Travel Agency] hates children.”

Me: “Says the person promising a child that they’re going to Disney without making a booking.”

Not my proudest moment, but I couldn’t hold back based on the audacity!
