Wine-ing About The Discount
I work in a high-end supermarket that has a decent wine selection.
Customer: “Are those wines on sale because they’re about to expire?”
Me: “Uh, the good, aged red wine is on sale because of inventory reasons. It’s not expiring anytime soon.”
Customer: “How can you tell? There aren’t any expiry dates on them!”
Me: “Wine CAN expire, but it has to be poor quality, and even then it takes quite a while! These reds are pretty decent, and they definitely haven’t been on our shelf for years!”
Customer: “If they’re so good, why are they on sale then?”
Me: “We’ve stopped carrying the brand.”
Customer: “Hmm, well, I still should get a discount because the wine bottle does not have an expiry date and that seems illegal to me.”
Me: “These are already 25% off. There’s nothing more I can do.”
The customer found a manager to complain to and was told the same thing. The wine isn’t bad! You’d think customers would be happy to see a discount on some old good reds, but there’s always one…
