Will Not Get Into Colladge

| Learning | February 29, 2016

(This story takes place in my junior year. I’m sitting with a friend in a science class which is a mix of juniors and seniors. Two senior girls are sitting behind me, discussing college applications.)

Girl #1: “How do you spell “college?”

Girl #2: “I think it’s c-o-l-l-a-g-e.”

(Being a writing and English nerd, I’m tempted to turn around and correct this; however, I’m also quiet and shy and end up saying nothing. A few more minutes go by and I hear this next.)

Girl #1: “Actually, I think it’s c-o-l-l-a-d-g-e.”

Me: *turning around without thinking* “Are you serious?!”

Friend: *next to me* “Not everyone is as good as you are at spelling, [My Name].”

(While I’ve been told that I’m better than average, I still find it amazing that seniors on the verge of graduating high school can’t even spell the name of the next step in their education!)
