(I am a crossing guard. Sometimes if I get bored, I’ll chat with people stopped at the traffic light. On this one occasion, two Department of Public Works trucks come up the street. One speeds up to make the yellow light and the other one stops at the red. I chat with the driver of the truck that has stopped at the red light.)
Me: “You guys on the clock?”
DPW Driver: “Why do you ask?
Me: “That other guy was in an awful hurry.”
DPW Driver: “He’s new… he’ll learn.”
