When You Run Ahead And Fall Behind At The Same Time
I’m standing by my register when a customer asks me to show him where a certain item is.
Me: “Sure, right over here.”
I walk over to the shelf to show him the item, answer a few questions about it, and he chooses which one he wants.
I turn to head back to my register. The customer practically speed-walks over to the register, passing me up. He gets there when I am about twenty feet away.
Customer: *Annoyed.* “Um, is there anyone who can ring me up?”
Me: *While maintaining a retail smile.* “That would be me… I’m getting there.”
He seems a little perplexed.
Customer: “I’ve been waiting a while.”
Me: “Uhm… you just got here. I was here less than a minute ago, and then we both walked over there together to get your item.”
The customer looks me up and down and seems to realize I have been the same person this whole time.
Customer: “Oh…”
I rang him up and sent his impatient little butt off into the sunset.
