When You Don’t Know What You Want, You Can’t Complain About The Results
A company hired me to create a website for them. I accepted the job, and they made an appointment to show me around and explain to me what they were doing and such. They gave me a brief tour of the office, but they didn’t really give me any information about what they wanted. Before the client left me to work, I had to flag him down to ask a few basic questions.
Me: “So, what colors do you want me to use?”
Client: “Well… I don’t know, That’s why we hired you.”
Me: “Okay, which color is associated with the company?”
Client: “Green.”
Me: “All right. What information do you want on your website?”
Client: “I don’t care! Just make me a website! Do whatever!”
Me: “Uh… Okay. Do you have some text for me to use on the website?”
Client: “I have this document. Do something with this, I guess.”
Then, he walked away. I had a look at the document. It was a write-up about some property they’d just bought across town
Eventually, I cobbled together some information from everyone else at the company, but it was like pulling teeth.
