When Rewards Don’t Feel Rewarding

(I work in a chain pharmacy store. We have a discount card that is required to get the store’s sale prices. This is stated on all of the sale signs. It takes literally ten seconds to sign up for the card, and in the event that a customer has forgotten their card, we can quickly look it up with their phone number. Even so, this happens at least once per day.)

Me: “Would you like to use your store card—”

Customer: *cutting me off impatiently* “No.”

Me: “All right, then.” *rings out items*

Customer: “Wait a minute! Those were supposed to be on sale!”

Me: *sigh*
