When Real Service Meets Fake Names
I’m waiting for my coffee in a busy coffee place.
Barista: “Caramel hazelnut mocha for Laura!”
No one answers.
Barista: *Louder.* “Caramel hazelnut mocha for Laura!”
This repeats one more time when a woman looks up from her phone, and her eyes go wide.
Customer: “Oh, wait! That’s me! Sorry, Laura isn’t my name, but I use it when ordering drinks. I brain-farted!”
The barista smiles that Customer Service Smile™ that can barely contain their rage, and everyone moves on quickly.
When I get my drink there next week, a new sign has been added at the pickup corner:
Sign: “Customers: please all remember your fake names!”
