When He Was Graded A ‘D’

(After his last day of grade two, I am going through my son’s school things to see what can be salvaged for grade three. While I am flipping through a folder of paragraphs, my eye catches this gem.)

Son’s Book: “Once upon a time there was a man named Dick. He wasn’t actually a d***.”

Me: *after I laughed myself silly* “What did you mean by that?”

Son: “A d*** is a person who is a jerk!”

(After more laughing, my husband and I sat down with him and discussed appropriate language, etc. It might have been more effective if I hadn’t been laughing the whole time.)
