Wheel-y Poor Planning
Just as I’m about to finish my closing duties and leave the store, a guy on a bicycle pulls up and starts slamming on the locked front door.
Me: “Sir, we’re closed. We closed forty minutes ago.”
Customer: “But I know exactly what I want! Can’t I just grab it and pay?”
Me: “No. All our registers are closed and locked up.”
Customer: “But I just rode an hour to get here!”
Me: “You started an hour-long bike ride to our store twenty minutes before we closed!?”
Customer: “It was open when I headed out, so you need to honor that!”
Me: “My bus home is in ten minutes, and the bus stop is a seven-minute walk from here. Letting you in will make me miss the bus, but it’s okay, the bus driver will wait for me and ‘honor it’ if I set out from here before he gets to the bus stop… right?”
Customer: “…”
Me: “That’s what I thought.”
I walked to the back of the store and exited that way. Good thing I left when I did, as my bus was a minute early!
