“What’s Up” May Be Unprofessional But There Are Worse Things To Get Annoyed About
I am up front at customer service as a backup because we are so busy. A woman walks up to the counter, so I walk over.
Me: “What’s up?”
Customer: *With a disgusted look on her face* “You can’t say that to me.”
Me: “I’m sorry?”
Customer: “You can’t say that to me. That’s really unprofessional. You have to say, ‘Hi. How are you?’”
I finish up the transaction without saying anything else because I don’t know how to respond.
Customer: “Ridiculous.” *Walks away*
Next Customer: *Just loud enough* What’s up?!”
Me: *Stifling a laugh* “How can I help you?”
