West Side Story With A Twist

, , , , | Right | September 11, 2026

A customer, upon booking, asked for a room with a view of the sunset. We accommodated, as this customer had their membership card, so they got dibs. Cue one perfect sunset view over the town.

The customer was pleased but came down to the lobby in a rage the next morning.

Customer: “What the f*** happened to my view?! I have a membership, and I expect better!”

Me: “Are you having issues accessing the view? Is there something wrong with the curtains, or—”

Customer: “—What the h*** are you talking about? I’m talking about my sunset?! Where the f*** is it?!”

No… surely not. It can’t be. I refuse to believe that this grown adult doesn’t know that sunset is… well… the sun setting?! I try to explain this as delicately as possible, and they reply:

Customer: “Oh my God! I’m not an idiot! I know sunset was just last night! I meant sunrise! I am a member and I expect to be able to see that too!”

Okay, so it’s not that they don’t know what sunset is, it’s that they don’t know about East and West, and the movements of the sun, and God knows what else…

Me: “I’m afraid if you want a room with a view of the sunset, then it would be impossible to have a view of the sunrise too.”

Customer: “Why?!”

Me: “Because the sun sets in the West and rises in the East.”

Customer: “Why?!”

Me: “Are you asking me why the Earth rotates?”

Customer: “No! I’m asking why you can’t give me a room that has views of both the sunrise and the sunset?!”

Me: “We don’t have rooms that face out from both sides of the hotel. Yours has a view of the West. The room opposite yours, on the other side of the hall, will have a view facing East.”

Customer: “Then remove the people in the room across the hall from me so that I can go look at the sunrise when I want to.”

I passed them on to my manager at that point, because my brain was beginning to hurt from the ignorance and entitlement. How do people like that get to afford $600 a night hotel rooms?!
