We’re All Earthlings, Ain’t We?

I’ve moved to the USA for a job, and my boss is introducing me to the team.

Boss: “This is [My Name]. He’s moved here from England!”

Me: “From Wales, actually. I’m from there, in the UK.”

Boss: “Bah, they’re right next to each other!”

He does this every time he introduces me to a new person, despite me correcting him every time. I love England and my English friends, but I am definitely Welsh and proud of it!

A couple of weeks later, a friend of mine in another department (the one who got me this job) comes down to say hi. I’m introducing him to my team.

Me: “This is [Boss]; he’s from Canada.”

Boss: “I’m an American!”

Me: “Bah, they’re right next to each other!”

Boss: “…”

He never forgot I was Welsh after that.
