“Well, This Looks Like A Job For Me…”

I work for an online advertising company building websites. After making a website for a client, we got an angry email.

Client: “The site you made is boring. You could have looked at my old site! I made it myself, and I got a lot of compliments.”

I had a look at the old site. It was built on a free site-builder common with scams, and it featured autoplay music and embedded Eminem videos.

Ignoring the horrors I’d just witnessed, I replied as politely as I could.

Me: “If you’re unhappy with the site, we would be happy to make any edits you request if you can send us some specific changes you’d like to see.”

He didn’t reply. I tried to call him several times and sent two follow-up emails.

A week later, he finally replied. I’ve preserved the spelling and formatting of his message.

Client: “So where is the site…
Looks like this was just another scam ahhh…
Havent herd from anyone…
No support what so ever
[my name] and the girl from 1 phone call all lier’s
Still nothin on Google…
Will have to take to social media on this one to protect other people…
-[customer] from [business] who has been scammed.”

We called him that day, and he approved his site after a forty-minute conversation about how it was “just nice to hear from someone.”
