We’ll Always Have Ancient Paris
(I’m showing Year 7 students, all of them Aboriginal, a documentary about underground Paris. The narrator is explaining that the quarries were used during Roman times, so I stop to clarify the timeline for them and we discuss what was going on in Australia at that time.)
Me: “So, the Romans were digging here about 2,000 years ago. What was happening in Australia then?”
Student #1: “Everything was in black and white and the cars were really old.”
Me: “Umm, not quite.” *I explain that cars weren’t invented yet* “Who was living here then?”
Student #2: “No one!”
Me: *face palm*
