We’d Demand A Manager, Too!

, , , , | Working | May 31, 2022

I believe that in my sixty-some years, I have demanded a manager only once. It was at a large electronics store, and when the manager arrived, I made a speech that went like this.

Me: “I made an appointment to have a new stereo put in my car today. I was told it would take two hours, so I arrived two hours later and was told it wasn’t ready. That’s fine; I didn’t really believe you would be on time, so I brought a book and was prepared to wait. Half an hour ago, I saw the technician assigned to work on my car walk in through the front door. I have been sitting here the whole time. I just walked outside and discovered that my car has been sitting at the curb for half an hour, unlocked, with the keys in the ignition. If someone had stolen it, we would be having an entirely different conversation, wouldn’t we?”

The manager gave me a coupon for free service but, for some reason, the store went out of business before I could use it. The stereo worked fine, though.
