We Can’t Believe They Thought That Would Work, Part 16

I work at a McDonald’s that, at the time of this story, has self-serve soft drink machines adjacent to the dining area. When a customer orders any carbonated drink, we do not fill the drinks for them; we give them a cup of the size they ordered and let them fill their own.

I serve a customer who seems to be ordering for a large table, given that his order includes six different drinks. Once the rest of his meal is ready, I set it all out on a tray, add a few drink cups of the requested sizes, and call his number; he shows his receipt with the order number, and I hand him the meal.

Less than five minutes later, my manager is speaking to me when I see the same customer storming back to the counter.

Customer: “You got my drinks wrong!”

Me: “…How?”

Customer: “I ordered a large [drink #1] and a medium [drink #2], and you gave me a large [drink #2] and a medium [drink #1]!”

Manager: “Sir, our workers do not fill drinks for those who dine in. You filled the drinks yourself.”

Customer: “Get me your manager!”

Manager: “I am the manager, sir. Take your scam elsewhere.”

The customer storms back to his table angrily, and I get back to serving others, a little baffled that he thought that would work.
