Vorsprung Duh Technik

(I am a German exchange student in the USA. My fellow exchange student who will soon visit Germany doesn’t seem to know much about it.)

Exchange Student: “So, how is Germany? Do you even have cars there? What about warm running water? I mean, I’ve never been to Germany, but I’d imagine it’s not easy to live there, right?”

(Mind you, all his friends are driving BMWs, which obviously is a German car. I decide to go along.)

Me: “No, we don’t. We actually drive around in horse carriages. I’ve driven in a car a few times and I find it impressive technology. Sometimes we’re lucky and have warm water, but not always.”

Exchange Student: “Well, it’ll be interesting to experience when I come to your place.”

(He was very surprised when arriving in Germany to find advanced technology, cars and, in fact, running warm water.)
